Head of People Services

We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of People Services in the GDC. We are looking for an experienced senior HR leader with a track record of HR/OD delivery in a complex organisation. The successful candidate will be able to establish credibility, deliver change at pace, and build department accountability with a strong customer service ethos.


Reporting to the Associate Director People and Organisational Development, this role will manage the Senior People Partners and People Operations Manager and will work closely with the Head of OD and Inclusion, with a total of 18 people making up the People Services and OD teams.


The People Services team is currently going through a period of change and is embedding a new Partnering structure and approach within the organisation. In addition, with the introduction of a new HR System in 2021 the team continues to focus on improving people services and supporting the organisation evolve as an ‘employer of choice’.


About you


The successful candidate will have strong HR experience from any business sector as this is about bringing fresh ideas as well as learning how to have influence in the Regulatory sector.


You will demonstrate strong business acumen – able to partner with the business to deliver business focused people strategies and quick to grasp a good understanding of how an organisation works.


With solid employment law knowledge and proven experience of applying updated legislation to a variety of HR situations, being MCIPD qualified or equivalent is desirable.


Having outstanding communication skills – able to deliver difficult news and give it a positive outlook as well as ability to influence board members. With the confidence to challenge where appropriate and suggest alternative paths – a skilled influencer, negotiator, and coach.


You will role model our values and provide strong motivational leadership to a small people services team. You will be confident to deal with escalations, provide hands-on operational support when required and be passionate about driving performance and productivity. You will thrive on the challenge of improving HR services whilst building strong stakeholder relationships and taking people with you through a high engagement approach.

Our primary purpose is to protect patient safety and maintain public confidence in dental services across the UK. To achieve this, we register qualified dental professionals, set standards for the dental team, investigate complaints about dental professionals' fitness to practise, and work to ensure the quality of dental education.

 

The GDC employs approximately 370 staff based across a corporate centre in London and an operational hub in Birmingham. We also engage the services of over 500 associates and panellists who sit on our statutory committees, hearings and fitness to practise panels. Our work matters and so do our people. Location: Birmingham / Hybrid – 2 days a week in the office with some travel to London
