HR Advisor

You will be supporting two businesses – Petrel Limited in Birmingham and Pyropress Limited in Plymouth – making it an exciting and varied opportunity. Petrel and Pyropress are part of the Pioneer Safety Group, a leading group dedicated to providing innovative solutions in hazardous area safety for explosive atmospheres. The role will be based at Petrel (Birmingham) and you will need to travel to Pyropress (Plymouth) approximately once a month, so flexibility and a willingness to travel are essential.


This is a part-time role (approx. 24 hours per week), offering you the flexibility to balance your work and personal life. 


You will work closely with managers and employees to deliver expert advice and support, ensuring HR practices align with both legal standards and the company’s strategic goals. With a varied and exciting range of responsibilities, this is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys making a real difference in an organisation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Employee Relations & Support: Provide guidance on performance, absence, discipline, grievances, and employee well-being.
  • Recruitment & Talent Acquisition: Oversee recruitment from advertising to onboarding, ensuring a smooth and positive candidate experience.
  • Learning & Development: Support performance management, training initiatives, and employee development plans.
  • Employee Engagement & Wellbeing: Lead initiatives that foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive work culture.
  • Pay & Benefits: Manage salary benchmarking, salary reviews, and employee benefits.
  • HR Compliance & Administration: Ensure compliance with legal requirements, maintain accurate records, and produce HR reports.
  • Payroll Administration: Work with the outsourced payroll provider to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing.
  • HR Systems & Projects: Ensure data integrity, identify process improvements, and support HR projects and change management initiatives.
  • Support of HR Admin at Pyropress: Provide support and guidance to the part time HR Administrator at Pyropress.


Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in a generalist HR role, particularly in performance management, absence management, and recruitment.
  • Strong understanding of employment law and HR best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships across all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proactive, empathetic, and approachable with the ability to build trust with employees and managers.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and HR systems (experience with Staffology HR system is a plus).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Willingness to travel to Plymouth approximately once a month.


Desirable Skills & Experience

  • CIPD qualified (or working towards).
  • Experience in HR roles within the manufacturing or engineering sectors.
  • Experience with TUPE, organisational restructuring, or acquisitions.
  • Familiarity with working alongside outsourced payroll providers.
