HR Advisor

The HR Advisor is responsible for working with the HR Business Partners to deliver a generalist and commercially focused HR service to the business. This role will provide specialist advice to all levels of management in Employee Relations matters, such as but not limited to, Performance Management, Absence Management Disciplinary, Grievance and Flexible Working. The position plays a key role in supporting the implementation and development of HR guidelines and procedures, ensuring they are in line with current employment legislation and best practice.


Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of the DAS HR strategy and agenda, through the provision of professional, pragmatic and commercial advice and guidance to employees and managers within the organisation across all Employee Relations matters in line with internal procedures and guidelines.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR guidelines and procedures, ensuring they are in line with current legislation and best practice.
  • Contribute to the achievement of strategic people initiatives as required by the HR Business Partners or other members of the management team, for example in supporting restructuring activity across the business or reporting Employee Relations trends.
  • Support managers in becoming effective leaders by upskilling them in Employee Relations matters to create a culture where people want to be and do their best and providing the best outcomes for our customers.
  • Be a trusted advisor to the business, with a specific emphasis on providing reliable and pragmatic Employee Relations advice to managers across the business.
  •  Work with the HR Centre of Expertise (HR COE) to identify and implement relevant HR process improvements to enhance the service offered to managers and employees.
  • Work with our Learning & Development (L&D) team to design and undertake relevant ad-hoc training for line managers and employees on either a 1:1 or group basis as required.
  • Mitigate any people management related risks across the business by guiding, coaching and supporting managers around key HR policies, processes and procedures.
  • Work with managers to ensure best practice HR solutions are followed and implemented, challenging as appropriate where this is not the case and escalating risk issues through the HR Business Partner(s) as required.
  • Support the mental wellbeing agenda for the business and sharing relevant mental wellbeing data with the Health and Safety Quarterly Forum to input into improving and monitoring this

Communication Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts in order to improve the relationship and reputation of DAS within the business.
  • Encourage teamwork and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills both inside and outside the department.


Knowledge / Skills / Experience

  • Previous HR advisory experience, with a thorough understanding of HR processes and procedures, preferably gained in a professional or financial services environment
  • CIPD qualified, studying towards qualification, or equivalent experience gained in a generalist HR role in a busy department, with a key focus on customer service and outcomes.
  • A good working knowledge of HR policies and practices, with the ability to use this knowledge to advise and influence at all levels of the management hierarchy
  • Well organised with good time management principles, with the ability to prioritise and balance competing workloads effectively
  • Able to work on own initiative with little supervision and make decisions relating to HR matters where required, with a flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • Passionate about delivering the highest possible standards of service to managers and employees with a positive ‘can do’ attitude
