Devon & Cornwall Police and Dorset Police have been in a strategic alliance since 2015, with several shared functions and services working across all three counties. Shared services include the People Function, Finance, Information & Communications, Technology, Fleet Services, Legal Services, Business Change as well as several other enabling functions. By working together, we provide increased resilience, information sharing, efficiencies, financial savings, and deliver improvements for the public.


We continue to have our own distinct identities and pursue Police and Crime plans agreed locally with our elected Police and Crime Commissioners. Each Force has their own Chief Constable, Deputy Chief Constable, and broader Executive Team.


About the role

Reporting into the Head of People, you will be the specialist lead with responsibility for shaping the Learning and Development Strategy for Devon and Cornwall Police and Dorset Police, ensuring it supports the Forces’ wider People Strategy and enabling the Forces to achieve their vision and priorities.


As the key lead your role will lead the delivery function and act as in-force client manager, engaging with internal and external stakeholders and service delivery partners.


The role has one direct report and shared overall responsibility of 397 individuals working within the department across the three counties, whilst working closely with the Learning and Development Manager based in Dorset, to provide the leadership delivery. This includes ensuring that training is delivered in line with authorised professional practice and legislative requirements. Areas include Initial and Geographic training for Police Officers and Staff; Firearms, Driver, Dog Handlers, Operations, Crime and Criminal Justice, Creative Design and IT Surveillance.


What you'll need to succeed

This role is a perfect for a CIPD qualified professional that has experience of working at a senior level within Learning and Development and is seeking a new challenge.


Your experience will enable you to drive forward the Learning and Development strategy to support the delivery of the Forces’ Visions and strategic priorities, ultimately making a real difference to the communities and public that the Forces serve.


This role is excellent for someone who thrives in fast paced and demanding environment. Your highly developed interpersonal skills and relationship management will be critical in building trust across the Forces at all levels.
