Employment Law Specialist

Bristol, Bristol, England, United Kingdom +1

Are you an experienced HR professional with extensive experience in Employee Relations and Employment Law, and looking for a career change?

We have a brilliant opportunity to join our Employment team within DAS Law as part of a new initiative to support HR professionals looking to move into a legal environment.

Who we are:

The Employment Team is made up of around 30 solicitors, paralegals and legal assistants. We offer exceptional levels of responsibility and pride ourselves on our levels of supervision and internal career progression. We have a strong values culture, which means you will be closely supported and mentored by your colleagues, learning to provide consistent and outstanding service to your clients.

What do we do?

The Employment Team deals with all aspects of employment law including litigation and advisory work for both employees and employers. The type of work the team deals with on a day-to-day basis includes advising on unfair dismissal claims, discrimination and whistle blowing. The work is varied and no one case is the same as another.

As well as acting for employees and employers during the litigation process we also provide advisory HR services, such as advising on employee handbooks and the drafting of employment contracts to support and guide businesses through the complexity of employment law requirements. The team also deals with its own advocacy. We believe that HR Professionals hold transferable skills including resilience, empathy and the willingness to develop their existing employment skills and experience.

We encourage early responsibility with a real emphasis on creating opportunities to promote our people from within the team. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to gain hands on” experience across a broad range of claims, and become an expert on employment law and negotiation and settlement tactics.

About You

We are looking for someone who has experience managing complex employee relations cases, including discrimination claims, bullying or harassment, complex medical cases, as well as experience negotiating with legal representatives and liaising with tribunals regarding claims including preparing ET3’s and witness statements. You will hold high attention to detail, be an articulate communicator and able to argue and negotiate on key points of law. Resilience is key, as due to the nature of the role you will be dealing with claimants and respondents in what is typically an emotive issue. Due to deadlines imposed by the tribunal service, you will have the ability to remain calm under pressure and the ability to prioritise multiple work commitments and deadlines.

We can provide an environment where you will develop your employment law knowledge by managing a varied caseload, whilst working towards your formal qualification as an Employment Associate. The route of qualifying will depend on your existing qualifications (as well as meeting the minimum regulatory requirements).

We offer a hybrid working arrangement which means we can only consider individuals who can commute to either our city centre Bristol or Bedwas offices. If you live outside of these areas and are willing to relocate please contact us to discuss as we may be able to support with this.

As a team we are passionate and enthusiastic about what we do. Our people are encouraged to think independently and to take ownership of their work.

Due to requirements as part of the programme to become a solicitor applicants need to have a minimum of 3 x A Levels (or equivalent) to be accepted. The duration of the programme will depend on the qualifications and the subject but are happy to discuss individuals situation.

In return for your commitment, we can offer you the following benefits package:

  • 25 days holiday with the option to buy up to a further 5 days
  • Company pension scheme with the option to increase contributions
  • Group Income Protection for all employees
  • Group Legal Protection for all employees
  • A choice of either European Motor Assistance or Home Emergency Assistance
  • Salary sacrifice benefits including Cycle scheme
  • Access to our employee discounts hub offering exclusive discounts across thousands of retail partners, including discounted gym memberships at over 3,000 gyms across the UK
  • The option to join our Sports and Social club which organises discounted events such as theatre visit and shopping trips

We are happy to consider part-time working arrangements where possible, and can discuss this further if required.

If you think you would be a good match for this role and can demonstrate some transferable experience please apply, regardless of whether you meet all the criteria listed above.

If you want to discuss this further then please contact the Recruitment team on recruitment@das.co.uk or HRBP- steph.carter@das.co.uk
